While one Texas county shook off ransomware, small cities took full punch
Lubbock County managed to isolate the attack quickly. Others, not so much.
...
On August 20, the Texas Department of Information Resources revised its initial report that 23 "entities" had been affected by the ransomware attack, reducing that count by 1. And a Texas DIR spokesperson said in a statement that about a quarter of the local governments affected have been able to at least partially restore normal operations.
That includes Lubbock County, which apparently escaped major disruptions.

Bitcoin Hackers Charged As Nuclear Power Plant Security Compromised

Illicit cryptocurrency mining isn't usually associated with state-level security compromises. Then again, Bitcoin hackers don't often target nuclear power plants. Yet according to a report on the Ukrainian UNIAN news website, that's exactly what happened at South Ukraine's second-largest nuclear power plant, south of Kiev in the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk.

This is why Russians deserve the credit for the evil genius foe they get at the movies, this attack is at the same time really smart and really destructive, fulfilling the worst predictions for a critical infrastructure attack. It's good that they are prevented by their own failures to be a bigger threat to the world.
