It's a AMD portable, I don't think it would be a good idea to get Linux on it.
I know you didn't ask, but believe it or not win10 works great on old AMD boxes. I have a Turion 2 somewhere around here that ran it great. Some potential old graphics driver issues, but the OS in general ran better than 7.

Seems like old Intel boxes are the only ones that fell flat there.
I think it would be a good idea to have 10 on it, but it would cost me something like 150 dollars. Sadly I lost the free upgrade period with this box.

You only need a USB stick to try a live version, it won't do any harm to see how it runs.

Which distro would you recommend for a 7 year old, with good game support (do Lego games on steam run on Linux?) and a Skype client?

Ubuntu is still the best for a beginner, most games now run on the Linux Steam Client, either native or through Proton.
Skype is an easy install: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-h ... pe.html.en

But try it Live first so that you know it's going to work okay. :sweet:

I've heard they're still letting people upgrade free even if the period has passed, but I honestly can't tell you.
People trying to convince themselves the ps5 is better remind me of the Xbox One launch :p

Well, I checked and Microsoft gave me the $150 price for a 10 Home license :hoghappy:

It might envolve a secret handshake or something, I just don't know how to do it now.

How to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free
Yes, you can still get the free upgrade from Microsoft

Research it. I know of two W8 machines that were successfully upgraded to W10 this year.

I did! I was about to post about it, after I wrote yesterdays message I did a search and found you could still upgrade an old Windows system, you just have to go to the windows 10 upgrade page to do so. You download it to a install media and then start the upgrade process, simple as that. It upgraded during the night, and is already up and working. It feels faster than when I purchased it, games are running better and no update troubles.

Thanks for the tip, Mr. Wolf!

Nice. I know y'all don't love 10 but in some cases it's fantastic...and supported. :)
