Epic Game Store

Post by impar »

Greetings!
The Epic Games Store Is Now Live

Yesterday we reported that Epic Games was launching its own game store that would only take a 12% cut of sales compared to the 30% that the Steam Store takes. Today I'm happy to report that the Epic Games Store is now live. From December 14th to December 27th the game Subnautica will be free and the free game will change every two weeks throughout 2019. Epic Games is funding the giveaways. An extended interview with Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney elaborates on the costs of running a digital storefront, VR support, its DRM policy and more.

I've heard good things about Journey on the PS4, so that alone is going to make the Epic store worth a shot. Subnautica being free is a nice bonus.

I'll give it a shot - worst-case scenario it'll be another account I don't use (Origin could use some company :-^ ).
No sig due to budget cuts.

Part of the massive success of Fortnite has been the ability for hundreds of millions of players to join with each other across myriad computer, mobile, and console platforms. Now, Epic is laying out a roadmap to share that cross-platform architecture with other developers as part of a free SDK that will be rolled out next year.
This could be the "killer app" for them - cross-platform play across almost everything.

I've heard good things about Subnautica, so will be grabbing this:

The superb Subnautica is free from the Epic Games Store. The undersea survival game is free to download until 27th December.
From the comments, the epic launcher isn't needed once the game has been installed.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 won’t be launching on Steam, but Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft’s upcoming co-op shooter will launch on Epic’s increasingly popular games store

The Epic Games Store has updated its refund policy. Now, just like on Steam, you can return a game for any reason within 14 days of purchase, providing you’ve played it for less than two hours in total.
Sounds like they'll also be introducing new features like user reviews.
