So, um, I liked Odyssey so much that I picked up Origins on sale 8-O

Only half way through the main campaign, and I can see why Ubi made the changes they did in Odyssey. The skill tree isn't as interesting in Origins, and simple alternating dodge + light attack is enough for most melee combat. The crafting system is overly complex, with multiple types of metal and leather to keep track of and obtain.

Where the game does well is with the story telling. Bayek is a sympathetic character, and they hit plenty of emotional beats on the subject of parental loss.

Review of the "First Blade" DLC for Odyssey contains some pretty big spoilers, but it perfectly describes my opinion of it after finishing the second chapter.

TL;DR - promoting a game based on your ability to make choices and then releasing DLC that removes any narrative agency is not cool.

Greetings!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey update demanded lesbian women have a baby
...
Odyssey was radical in that claimed to allow players to define their character’s sexuality. However, there was some alarm when the latest update insisted that lesbian characters took time out of their busy schedule to have a child by shagging a bloke.

Even if the character chooses not to sleep with the male character who was supposed to impregnate them, the character still ends up pregnant. When the characters have the baby, they get an upgrade called “growing up” which seems to imply that when you are young you can shag what you like, but when you grow up you will have a baby like most adults.

Impar, that's a pretty big spoiler for anyone who might be interested in playing the game in future, and why I didn't quote the polygon article :?

It's also worth noting the same lack of respect for people's choices apply if you're playing as Alexios (the male character).

Article contains spoilers:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s “Shadow Heritage” expansion will get changes to its story and cinematics after all...
Sounds like they're going to make some tweaks to cutscene dialogue to better reflect the players choices. That won't change the storyline, but will at least better explain your character's motivation.

But as I looked back on more than a decade of playing Assassin's Creed games to write this article, I for the first time kind of understood loving something so much that its stumbles make you feel not just disappointed, but a little mad.
TL;DR - it's a summary of what he felt was good about the series, and a recognition that things weren't great for many years.

I chuckled at the anticipated first cries of malaka, the go-to Hellenic swear word. It’s our most loaded and oddly versatile swear, so it’s the one we most heavily use. It’s also the one we teach everyone first, so its presence was expected. But as I played on, it was the more nuanced aspects of the voice work that I recognized as genuine.

Ubisoft have added a story creator mode to Odyssey 8-O

https://www.polygon.com/e3/2019/6/10/18 ... ne-e3-2019
The video above shows how a player will stitch together two or more objectives into a longer mission arc, choosing from all the NPCs of the main Odyssey game and even writing dialogue for them. These creations may then be shared with the wider community.

And of course people were exploiting creator mode:

Yesterday, Ubisoft put their foot down on players making self-completing XP farming quests, officially stating that their prevalence leads to “less visibility for the creative, interesting and frankly fantastic community stories that have been published”. Worth noting that Ubisoft still sell XP boosters of their own.
The final DLC for Odyssey was released yesterday, so I may need to spend some time with it:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/0 ... c-chapter/
Judgement Of Atlantis is the third and final part of the Fate Of Atlantis arc, and likely the the last ever DLC chapter to the open-world hack n’ slasher. Out now, it finally lets players rise out of the Greek afterlife and into the sci-fi high life. Poseidon, king of the Isu, has appointed Kassandra (or Alexios) as his right hand badass and set them loose to clean up Atlantis.
The game continues to sell well, especially considering it was release last year:

https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/346 ... uarter.php
In its Q1 financial reporting, Ubisoft credits Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Rainbow Six Siege for that performace, two games that notably released before Q1 even began.
