Additional details from today's EAPlay event:

- co-op, but the story is "playable" solo
- no loot boxes
- no romances
- released at the end of February 2019 (supposedly)

Feb 22nd is the official release date, and a lot more promotional material is coming online.

Looks pretty, though I'm a bit skeptical about ability to play solo given what's been shown thus far. I'm tempted to subscribe to Origin Access for a month ($5) for an extended demo once it comes out next month.

Got into the VIP demo which consists of a couple of missions from mid-game, and was supposedly based on an earlier build.

It's not grabbing me. The flight controls are weird and twitchy (though supposedly "fixed" in the final build). Movement inside the city hub is molasses slow. The FOV is narrow and non-adjustable. Menu design is confusing. Overall, the UI felt like a lazy console port.

You can't even change settings unless you're online - which was a problem for a few hours after the demo launched.

Combat is OK, but the dependence on other people is grating as the game rubber bands you to keep you with everyone else. One big fight failed because one of our squad was AFK, but parked themselves at the edge of the fight area.

Tried a different Javelin (suit) type - the Storm. This is much more my style, but the flight controls still suck. They are even worse underwater where there is no visibility, so you can't see where you're supposed to be going, and end up slamming into walls until you drown.

I feel sorry for anyone playing this on console given the number of loading screens you see, and how long they take to load.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019 ... 16-players
BioWare has announced an addition to Anthem: a social space for up to 16 players to hang out in their cool Javelin mech suits.

Named the Launch Bay, it's a separate area from both the game's open world, which you can explore with up to three friends, and your personal hub of Fort Tarsis, which you explore alone.
It would be good if friends could launch an expedition (mission) from there too.

He's got a point:

https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to- ... art-2019-1
But one tradeoff that came with zero advancement is the needless complexity of blockbuster video game launches. The question of "When does X come out?" has gotten more complicated than ever.
...
Let's acknowledge that up front — no game should require players to consult a chart in order to figure out when they can play a game.

I gave the demo another go, but can't get over the annoyances that are discussed by RPS. I hope it succeeds so that Bioware can get a shot at producing another Mass Effect game, but this sort of multi-player game isn't for me. Given the way the demo works, I don't think playing the campaign solo is realistic.
