Ok, did some more quests, taking a better liking to the game. Was having "battery anxiety" with the Power Armour needing Fusion Cores, but I got plenty spare, besides that perk to reduce usage really helps. Main quests is getting more interesting, even if the story is a bit contrived.

Overall I'd say it's a decent value, even if I still think it's the worse Fallout game

Yeah I havent played any of the other Fallouts so I have no comparison. It's just the setting that has captured my imagination plus I love all the touches and attention to detail in certain areas.

I've mainly enjoyed just exploring and trying to find all the hidden stuff. Tracking down the emergency beacons, finding hidden bunkers.

Tweaking and building settlements has taken up a good chunk. I've enjoyed building and working out better ways to defend them etc. Adding street lighting for the first time was fun, adding missile launchers to defence, stuff like that.

In fact I'd love a pure Fallout Settlements/Civ type game. Whereby you have a huge area and you select a spot on the map and you build from there till you have a town or city with 500+ settlers to look after. Protecting them from all the crap out there. Bringing civilisation back piece by piece.

FO4 is quite different from previous games, in a number of ways. I do feel the previous ones favour a bit more of exploration, since a lot of places are never mentioned at all - you either get to them by chance, or purposely wander around in a random direction to find new stuff - no one will tell you "Go to <PLACE> because <REASON>" and mark it on your map (in FO4 both the Minutemen guy and the BoS seem to direct you to a lot of random locations - I realize I still have a lot to explore though, so I may be talking too soon about this).

I prefer FO4 handling or armour/weapons, and not having to repair them (weapons, at least) is nice, I suppose. No level cap has both advantages (allows you to get all the perks, more incentive to keep playing) and disadvantages (less strategy when choosing which perks to get, since you can't get them all).

Yeah Preston mainly tells you to go to settlements so he will point you to around 25 locations. There are still around 400 or so to find.

Now doing Far Harbour. A nice change of pace and location.

Wait you have almost 700 hours only on the main game?! 8-O

I think I'm reaching 60 hours, which is more than I expected to play this game, I confess. Already advanced the main quest quite a bit, I think I'm at a "point of no return" (had to load a previous save after noticing), so I'm finishing a bunch of faction side quests, no idea if they might become unavailable with the choice I have to make :o

Well I've completed the main game plus Automata, Nuka World and played around with the other DLC. Now 20% through Far Harbour.

I completed the main game at around level 60. Now at level 148. I spend a lot of time scavenging and settlement building. I go round every 30 level ups or so upgrading the weapons and clothing of settlers etc. Sometimes I pull an old settlement down and build a better one.

I now have random settlers turning up in power armour and ballistic weave clothing, the level is so high.

Yeah I'm not really focusing on settlements, more on the story really. I do like the weapon/armour upgrading, though.
I might by some DLC later on, if they offer some new areas to explore.

You might like the upcoming Fortnite, not exactly a Civ game, but seems to focus a lot on settlement building/management and resource gathering :)

I'll check it out! Ta.

That looks pretty good! I have to say the graphics look like the work of the folks that made Torchlight. :-k

Oh jeez just finished the mission to recover lost data memories in Far Harbour. many class this as the worst mission ever. Its a huge logic puzzle and it took me ages. In the end the final puzzle was solved using a glitch (not a cheat as such as it uses no codes or console and still relies on pure chance) otherwise I'd still be stuck trying to work it out. I set the pieces up in the hope the result would happen and it happened while I was trying to solve the puzzle. I was about 75% done.
