I don't think it will sell well at that price, which should be close to the next generation consoles. The Xbox mini, for instance, will probably have media center capabilities, play 360 games and sell for about half the Shields price.
Yeah $299 would have been more realistic, but at least it does run a stock Android 4.2 which will have it's benefits, and it's own media and streaming capabilities.

But do you intend to buy one? As said in the article, the price makes sense at a BOM perspective, but not, IMHO, at what it offers. Maybe they should make a version without the screen for $200, because the point of the device is to be a simple way to stream and play your PC game at your TV.

At that price it makes no sense to play an android game at a small screen.

I like the look of it, and the price isn't too bad. I could definitely get some use out of it though :sweet:

I wonder how many they will manufacture... Should be something like 10k units for it to be reasonably available and then get sold out, and they will be able to claim there is high demand for a Tegra 4 device

Wonder for how long is nVidia keeping this one alive.

Depends on how it sells I guess, the hardware is decent (GPU not so much, but the CPU is ARM's current fastest), and I imagine a Shield v2 might appear once the Denver SoC is ready.
