Greetings!

It would help Steam if Valve actually produced some games.

Steam has the largest catalogue, so it'll take a long time to knock them off their perch.
I'd doubt anyone will be able to compete with Google's streaming infrastructure however.

Amazon will probably try to get some of that pie as well (they already have a bunch of game development and infrastructure services, and they own Twitch), and, about 3 years too late, Microsoft will join the party
No sig due to budget cuts.

Microsoft is a company that would have to think carefully about this, as it has xbox game sales to lose and not as much servers as Google or Amazon. I wonder if this "all in" play by Apple will work... :-k

Next they will make Apple only cities and will match Apple couples :hoghappy:

It certainly fits the subscription model they've been migrating to, so that wouldn't be too far fetched, even if they lose some Xbox game sales, it could still be worth it (see Origin Access).

As for the number of servers, they've been investing heavily in Azure since its inception, some estimates actually put them ahead of Google in terms of raw numbers (you could argue that they need more servers to run Windows ).

Interesting times ahead {8()+

Yes

A opportunity they do have: to use their dominant PC platform to sell gaming as a service.

If they happen to embrace streaming a console would be probably a very good platform for this, to just enable gaming with RTX like ray traced lighting or better.

I think Apple's problem will be convincing non-Apple users, although with a current ~100m userbase it might not have to.

I don't think Apple plans to stop at it's current user base, the scale of the plan looks like they would have to grow to make it all the structure worthwhile.

You also have to think that a sizeable chunk of that user base lives outside of the US and won't be able to enjoy most of those products for a while, and chinese customers, for example, might never have access to part of the package.

Here's a piece I've read today:
The new “bundle” of subscription services also raises questions as to whether more iOS-only products are a good thing for consumers, who in recent years have moved away from expensive, often restrictive media and wireless service packages in favor of à la carte, monthly, or non-contractual services. Apple was careful to highlight all of the ways in which it’s giving consumers choice—HBO! Showtime! 300-plus magazines! two Oprah-endorsed documentaries—and touted privacy as a feature of its offerings. But clearly, the company’s push in services is designed to lock more customers into the Apple life.

Why Valve actually gets less than 30 percent of Steam game sales
Commission-free Steam key sales through other stores cut into Valve's bottom line.
