All of game development is magical, truly, but there is a very special kind of excitement when environment artists unveil their work. A senior game designer over at Respawn Entertainment has done just that, showing off what some Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond levels looked like before and after she turned them over to environment artists.

The studio behind The Division are making a new “story-driven, open-world Star Wars game,” Lucasfilm announced today.
Given they're also working on Avatar, I guess that means no more Division

Interesting model of the different player types:

Inspired by Bartle, I took my experience building and playing successful – and NOT so successful – social games and services, and identified four key patterns: Compete, Collaborate, Express and Explore.
I'm mostly a cross between Collaborate and Explore.

European Commission levies $9.5 million in fines for 'geo-blocked' Steam games
Valve, ZeniMax, Capcom and others face EU antitrust regulatory wrath

Video games have a long history of geo-blocking (aka region locking). In many cases, the practice has legitimate uses, such as preventing software from running where it might be illegal or censored. However, in 2018, the EU imposed rules against "unjustified geo-blocking" and views it as a means to "price discriminate" in specific areas in the Union.

Gabe Newell is now a New Zealand resident, says Valve is actively developing games and that etournments could start to happen there:
'Realistic possibility' $48m esports tournament could be held in NZ, says gaming tycoon Gabe Newell
LUKE APPLEBY, 1 NEWS DIGITAL REPORTER
TUE, JAN 19
Valve Corporation gaming tycoon Gabe Newell says there is "strong interest" from his employees to move to New Zealand — and that the prospect of holding the company's multi-million dollar International and Majors esports tournaments here "gets more realistic all the time".

He and his family, along with a group of friends, came to New Zealand on a family holiday in early 2020, but as the Covid-19 pandemic worsened, they decided the "most sensible" option would be to stay here.

In an extensive interview with 1 NEWS, Newell said he has now been granted New Zealand residency in principle, and that he plans to continue down the citizenship path to stay here "for the foreseeable future".
There are videos of the interview over there:
