Good to know I might have the option of keeping my B450 board if I ever need a CPU upgrade, but it's going to require massive IPC increase before that happens.

Unless MB manufacturers makes two BIOS. A 1000/2000/3000 and a 3000/4000.
For all we know it could just be a PCIe 4.0 thing, like if a Zen 3 can't detect it, it won't boot.

I would bet that AMD will backtrack on this in a couple months or so.
I should have said in under two weeks :hoghappy:

AMD partners launch their B550 chipset motherboards:

Expensive though (>$150) for most of them, but they do come with 2.5G ethernet and HDMI 2.1 (TV APU support) and there are plenty of mATX/ITX options.
I'll be interested to hear the Buildzoid rundowns. 8)

2.5G ethernet huh? I guess it does match up with 802.11AX better but I wonder how many people actually care.

Greetings!
AMD B550 Motherboards to Restart AGESA with v2

Apparently, AMD will be taking a slightly confusing step with its new AGESA codes - at least for the B550 platform. A report via Hardwareluxx has AMD rebooting AGESA (the most basic firmware for your motherboard and chipset support that's a requirement for correct CPU and feature support) versions back to version 1.0.0.0, but with a catch. The new AGESA version that's supposed to allow for support for AMD's Zen 3 CPUs will be coded as ComboAM4 v2 1.0.0.0 - instead of the next version in the current AGESA nomenclature, 1.0.0.6. It is still unclear if this change only refers to AMD's B550 or if it will also move on to X570's next AGESA releases.

Why?

They don't do themselves any favours sometimes as this'll just make things more confusing ](*,), they should just start at 2.0.0.0 and then it'll make sense that it's a Zen3 AGESA.
