I saw this coming when they acquired Pocket (which I like and use). They absolutely need to reduce their dependency on money from google if they're to remain a viable competitor, and offering for-pay services is a more reliable way of doing so than soliciting donations.

The security standard is implemented at the app level, making Mozilla the first browser to use DNS-over-HTTPS. By encrypting the DNS query it also protects the DNS request against man-in-the-middle attacks, which allow attackers to hijack the request and point victims to a malicious page instead.
Coincidentally, bypasses ISP content filtering and injections :-^

Mozilla is evil for breaking the Great Firewall of Albion

An industry group of internet service providers has branded Firefox browser maker Mozilla an “internet villain” for supporting a DNS security standard which turns the UK government’s “pr0n shield” into an electric chocolate teapot.

Firefox browser maker Mozilla is blocking the United Arab Emirates’ government from serving as one of its internet security gatekeepers on the grounds it is spying on people.
